We think so. RatCat heard from Apple yesterday and our application has been approved. We are now officially members of the developer community. That opens up the door to allow our work to be published into the iTunes Apps Store. It also lets us install our creations on our in-house test devices (currently a single iPod Touch). So the fun can now really begin! Remember, RatCat Software wants to entertain and educate, and our applications must pass the test of our in-house testing team (12, 6 and 4 year old girls and a 3 year old boy). What we have found out so far is that one device for a crew this large is forcing the team some valuable lessons in sharing. They really have taken to the iPod Touch. Much more then they had to Nintendo DS or any similar devices. And parents, think about it… no little plastic cartridges to lose. Just download the apps and enjoy. I definitely see some more “test” devices coming into our future!

Development has begun

Building great software is a process and it starts the day you decide on a theme. Well folks, development has officially begun. Our theme is spelling words, the applications name is set to be Meghan’s Memory Game and it will feature an animated girl Meghan who works along with your youngster to learn weekly spelling words. The plan is to have two options, one to play the game and a second option to add words. When a child adds words, they will be asked to type the word, then record themselves (or a parent) saying the word, then a complete sentence using the word. Utilizing the child’s own spelling words will help drive their interest and help achieve the goal of getting them to learn something!
