Meghan’s Matching Game on iPad.. issue with sound?

No Sound!
So I got a new 2nd Generation iPad the other day and installed Meghan’s Matching Game Deluxe onto it to test things out with the latest hardware. Not really expecting to find any issue, but wouldn’t you know, right off the bat… NO SOUND!

After a little application debugging and then some goggling to see if any other developers are having similar issues, it turns out its a iOS 4.3 issue. There is a little trick to fix it I found that one developer posted and it worked for me, Go into the “Settings App”, then choose General. Tap Sounds, then make sure that “Change with Buttons” is set to “ON”. Not sure why, but this will fix the issue.

Please submit a support request if you have come across this same issue, I am trying to determine if my own issue is a one off, or if this is wide spreed.

Comments on comments and an upadate to WordFlash!

Got a good comment the other day and I was so impressed I took the time tonight to add mudixon’s suggestion to WordFlash. Here is the comment as I found it listed on 2nd grade app.

Could use one feature
by mudixon – Version 1.3.1 – May 15, 2010
This app is okay for what it does, but it would be better if you could turn off the word announce BUT allow the child to press a button to say the word if they are unsure of it. As of this review, the word announce is either on or off.

I thought that was fantastic! A review that is useful and intelligent with a valid suggestion that is meaningful and worth taking action on.

Recently I have found myself in many conversations regarding comments and ratings of iTunes apps. I always try to explain to people why they are basically useless. So many of the comments that are seen in iTunes are negative rants that add up to basically nothing informative. Cost’s too much, not enough features, to easy, yata yata yata… Well folks what do you really expect for a product that cost less then an average cup of coffee? 2 dollars for an application that may have taken me several weeks to develop seems to me to be a fair deal to me, given that most apps do not hit the charts and do not score the 100,000′s of downloads that make the headlines. Who says you have to buy our apps anyway? It’s your choice, just like that cup of joe, or a couple of cans of pop. Yet, after spending that buck or too, people feel totally and completely compelled to tear down the developer, the app or anything else they can wrap words around.  Not fair given the fact that we have no way to directly respond to the reviewer.

Anyway, enough with my little editorial. Hope you like the new feature.

Time to get an iPhone 3GS!

According to the AppleBlogs twitter coverage of the WWDC 2009 conference in San Francisco I had been following today, Apple just announced that it will release the iPhone OS 3.0 on June 17th. There will also be a new iPhone coming out on June 19th, the iPhone 3GS (S for SPEED). They boosted the camera, added auto-focus and video capture. They also claim extended battery life and a starting price for the 16gb unit at $199.
This is great news, we had been holding off on purchasing the iPhone and have been exclusively doing our development testing on the iPod Touch.  We are also pleased because our recent releases of Meghan’s Memory Game passed the 3.0 test Apple had began at the beginning of May.  Now we need to incorporate some of those new features into our apps! YouTube video posted of 1.2 enhancments to MMG

As mentioned in our previous post, in the latest update of Meghan’s memory game we enhanced the way the cards flip over. Version 1.2 of Kindergarten should be showing up in the App Store anytime now (our updates status has been changed to “Ready For Sale”).

Here is a video of how it now functions:

Meghan’s Memory Game Preschool edition is in the bag!

Today I was able to finish up coding some important changes to the way the cards display when being selected and complete the coding of a 1.2 version of the game. In earlier versions, the cards flip over a bit too fast for little readers to be able to fully grasp what they are looking at. So, to make the game play more enjoyable and hopefully more educational I spent a good bit of time re-engineering how things work. I had to incorporate a game play timer and spawn off a thread to flip the cards after about a second of time has passed. The results look very good and we are excited to see how this change is received as we incorporate it into the other editions. Also new to this version and especially geared toward the younger players of the game are some extra sound effects when cards are flipped back over. The Preschool edition should hit the store on or about the 15th of May.
