New name same app!

Meghan’s Memory Game is now Meghan’s Matching Game!

So, you are probably asking “why the name change?” Well not wanting to get into to much detail, the reason came to us in the form of a nicely worded correspondence for a trademark holder. Apparently we infringed on the rights of an organization much larger then we are and they were kind enough to let us know!

The resolution is a simple one, rename the apps and remove the word “memory”. We have done that and uploaded the update to Apple. So, pending approval by iTunes the renamed apps should be in the store on or around September 7th.

Meghan’s ABC123 now available on iTunes

Meghan's ABC123RatCat Software is pleased to announce that our latest educational game for the iPhone and iPod Touch is now available in the iTunes App Store.

Designed to help her three year old little brother learn his ABC’s and 123’s Meghan’s latest app is actually three learning games in one.

Learning Mode - is similar to a flash card app with letters and numbers being displayed on a blackboard and read aloud to your child as they tap the screen to move through the alphabet.

Matching Mode -
is like a memory game but give your child an opportunity to match letters to clear the board and go to the next level.  Letters and numbers are spoken as selected.

Memory Mode –
will help your toddlers and preschoolers learn their ABC’s in a fun and challenging way. Being setup as a memory game, the letters are displayed for a brief period of time before the blocks flip over and match play begins. To aid in letter and number recognition each time a block is selected the letter is spoken.

If your toddler enjoys Dora the Explorer, Wonder Pets, Go Diego, Sesame Street, Blues Clues, Baby Einstein, Disney, Barney, etc they will enjoy learning their ABC’s with Meghan!

Features:
-Three games in one, Flash Cards, Matching Game and Memory Game
-Spoken Letters and Numbers
-Teaches English Language Alphabet and Numbers 1 to 9

Introducing Meghan’s ABC123

Meghan's ABC123Having noticed sales trends to be way in favor of our Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade editions of Meghan’s Memory game we decided to focus our efforts on the development of a application geared toward the Toddler. This new game, simply titled Meghan’s ABC123 takes our game platform to a new heights offering three levels of increasing game play and a new learning mode designed like an interactive blackboard to help the little ones learn their ABC’s and their 123′s. Meghan’s ABC123 is now in final testing and early results have been very positive with two of the four testers having already given the two thumbs up. Will it be our next top 100 iPhone app? Who knows, but what we do know is that we are learning more each day about building an independent software company (or INDIE as it is know in the industry) geared to iPhone development that you just can’t read in a book or on a blog.

Time to get an iPhone 3GS!

According to the AppleBlogs twitter coverage of the WWDC 2009 conference in San Francisco I had been following today, Apple just announced that it will release the iPhone OS 3.0 on June 17th. There will also be a new iPhone coming out on June 19th, the iPhone 3GS (S for SPEED). They boosted the camera, added auto-focus and video capture. They also claim extended battery life and a starting price for the 16gb unit at $199.
This is great news, we had been holding off on purchasing the iPhone and have been exclusively doing our development testing on the iPod Touch.  We are also pleased because our recent releases of Meghan’s Memory Game passed the 3.0 test Apple had began at the beginning of May.  Now we need to incorporate some of those new features into our apps! Enhancing Meghan’s Memory!

In my last post I discussed some changes we wanted to add into Meghan’s Memory Game. Adding a feature at the start of the game to display the words prior to game play. As expected the feature took only a few lines of code to complete and is incorporated in our v1.2.2 game engine. What I didn’t anticipate was how well received the change would be. Meghan and the testing team have show a new level of interest in the game that was unexpected. Even my 12 year got excited over the change and challenged all of us to see who could remember the most positions in one try. Bet you can guess… She Won! But she was not able to clear the entire screen in one try as she so boastfully had bragged! I hadn’t realized the huge benefit in providing the display. Not only does it add a new dimension to game play, but it adds to the games ability to increase your childs memory, alertness and concentration skills in one shot! These changes have been uploaded to the iTunes store and should be available for download late next week. To learn more about Meghans Memory Game view the product page.
